My story

I was born in Tokyo in 1940. I studied architecture at Waseda University and completed my master's degree there in 1965. I majored in building equipment, under the supervision of professors Uichi Inoue and Kenichi Kimura. In 1965, I joined Obayashi Corporation and was assigned to the Technical Research Institute in Kiyose, Tokyo. From 1971 to 1973, I had the good fortune to work at the Hermann-Rietschel Institute at the Technical University of Berlin as a scholarship student of the German Academic Exchange Association (DAAD). I was very warmly greeted there by people from all over the world.  Foreigners jumped in without knowing anything, and that exchange continues today. It was also at that time that I learned the technology of external insulation (ETICS). I returned to Obayashi Corporation in Japan, in December 1973.

. In 1993 I was invited to the newly established Faculty of Life Science at Ochanomizu University and taught building science in the Life Engineering Course. I retired in 2006. Since then I have worked as the president of the Japanese Insulation Housing Technology

Association. I have also done research on Bruno Taut and Bauhaus,  sometimes publishing results in magazines.

But my specialty is building science and building equipment. At Ochanomizu University, I also researched and conducted lectures on heating, air conditioning technology and building science. I also  investigated Kachelofen, a traditional German heating technology and building science. They are also covered in my homepage.

The predecessor of our faculty was the Faculty of Home Economics. Oue newly established department is Faculty of Himan Life snd Environment. Architecture course student learn how to design houses and buildings well.

Our Faculty of Human Life and Environment students learn how to live well and health in houses.

Of course,  how to live well and how to design well are two sides of the same coin. Toward that end, I researched molds that live in houses. We also studied indoor air quality. Theses research results are also presented on my homepage. My research was recognized and awarded a prize from Minister of Health, Labor and Welfare. I also received an award from the Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism. In addition, I received a Hermann Rietschel medal from the Society of German Engineers. (VDI)
